Georgia Public Service Commission staff to testify of more Plant Vogtle Unit 3 delays
In testimony posted publicly Monday, Georgia Public Service Commission staff say they believe the first new reactor at Georgia Power's expanding Plant Vogtle nuclear power plant will be delayed even later than the company announced.
"The Companys forecast on 5/29/2021 for Unit 3 (commercial operation date) is 1/18/2022," the testimony reads. "As explained in more detail below, it is our opinion that Unit 3 COD will be significantly later than the 1/18/2022 Unit 3 COD forecast by the Company."
The testimony from the two staffers Steven D. Roetger and William R. Jacobs, representing the commissions public interest advocacy staff was posted publicly ahead of a June 24 public hearing by the commission. The hearing will consider the 24th Vogtle construction monitoring report, which covers July 1 to Dec. 31 of last year.
The Vogtle expansion includes two new units and has run significantly late and over budget, although Unit 3 is planned to be online before Unit 4.
