Mayor Garnett Johnson announces run for re-election
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson has announced that he is running for re-election.
Mayor Johnson made the announcement on Friday night that he wants 4 more years in the office as mayor.
I ask you for the opportunity to earn your vote, meaning that Ill never take it for granted. And Im asking you, let me run it again. take it from me let me earn it every single day, says Mayor Johnson. Ive told people boldly, this is the most beautiful city on the planet. Ill call it home. I was born and raised here and I may be biased, but I want to make sure that its better for not only those who are like me that were born and raised here, but those who visit and want to live here. I am most proud of my accountability and stance on no new taxes to our residents, very happy about our recovery and our restoration from Hurricane Ali. Most importantly, the charter review process weve been talking about it since 1996 on how we make our government more efficient and more effective. Were finally having those tough discussions.
I think probably one of the most significant times was when we were recovering from Helene, says Betty Hanks, an Augusta citizen. It was a huge, huge mess here, and he got on the job. He talked to people. He had meetings all over town, listened to people. he just he pays attention to people and what their needs are and in an effective way.
