Georgia lawmakers push new election reform bills ahead of 2026 races

ATLANTA (WJBF) – With 2026 shaping up to be a major election year in Georgia, featuring both the governor’s race and a U.S. Senate contest, lawmakers under the Gold Dome are advancing a series of election reform proposals.

At the Georgia State Capitol, legislators in both parties are introducing bills that would significantly change how Georgians cast their ballots.

Senate Bill 214 would make changes to voting equipment standards and ballot procedures.

House Bill 1108 proposed moving the state away from electronic barcode ballots, a system currently used across Georgia, and shifting toward hand-marked paper ballots.
