Growing up in Spokane in the 60s, this was a big deal as the Sunshine Mine was very close by. I did a bicycle touring vacation from Spokane to Kellog in 2008 and stopped by the site which also has a memorial to the men who perished there. It stands as a reminder to the danger that these individuals face in this industry. Today’s EPA decision opens the door to future tragedies like this one.
