2 accused of stealing placenta, umbilical cord from Caldwell hospital
CALDWELL A married couple is accused of stealing a placenta and umbilical cord from a Caldwell hospital, according to a report from KIVI-TV.
A Caldwell Police report said Alexis Buller gave birth to a baby on July 3. After Buller gave birth, hospital staff went to retrieve the placenta, umbilical cord and vials associated with the birth, but they were missing.
A police report stated staff at the hospital were concerned the mother was possibly using drugs. The doctor ordered the placenta, cord and cord blood be sent for testing.
After viewing surveillance camera video, police said they saw Bullers mother, Rhiannon Stoneham, taking something from the hospital. The woman reportedly told officers she was afraid for her daughter, Buller, because she believed a friend had spiked her daughters drink with methamphetamine when her daughter went over to buy marijuana from the friend.
