(24,838 posts)I have volunteered for democratic candidates in the past.
The most interesting race is the one for my state legislature representative. I have the choice of the fake democrat who was a republican who switched parties so he could win in a very liberal area (west side of Chicago). Wow is he sleazy. He is blond and white. He has billboards with a black man next to his name so people will think he is black . He is very anti choice and has done missionary work in Kenya.
His opponent is black has worked for years in the community and unfortunately was charged with taking a $7000 bribe from a day care center wanting him to support a grant for their center.
In my opinion the $7000 bribe is bad. But, a bribe from a day care center to help their needs is far better than a legal bribe from the koch brothers.

(838 posts)The only presidential candidate who's going to be on my ballot is Obama. I've voted Democratic all my life, and I believe that primary election party choice is freely available information in Illinois.
I can think of three reasonable possibilities why they are calling me:
(1) Whoever had my phone number before me was a Republican or a swing voter, or
(2) They aren't bothering to take the time or money to filter out Democrats and are just calling indiscriminately, or
(3) They guessed, or ran the probabilities based on available information, that I belong to a demographic they think might be receptive to conversion to the dark side (blue collar white guy with a high school education).
Depending on which of these is the case (it may be more than one, or something else I didn't consider), my response is...
(1) A Republican is more malicious than the typical bill collector, and almost as dumb. Yet even the bill collectors have figured out that whoever had my number before me, has long since moved on.
(2) I wonder how much they're spending on more phone bills than necessary compares to what they're saving on not bothering to check to see who is not likely to vote in the Republican primary.
(3) It's not gonna work, guys! It's going to be a cold day in hell before I'll support the party that wants to make me compete for my daily bread. Obama's my guy next week and in November!
