Just looking to see what other citizens of IL think. I will listen to the debate
The first debate of the new year will take place on Jan. 23 when NBC Chicago and Telemundo host a debate between the Democratic candidates. A total of six debates are currently on the docket.

(71,821 posts)not your average politician. smart, principled, decent. pretty unflappable.
i think jb is a hard sell on the tail of ruiner, but i do think he is a good guy whose heart is in the right place. smart and practical, and tackles problems at the root.
loving his ads. even if he isnt the candidate, he is softening up the opposition. taking on drumph, big time.
kennedy is out of his league here, imho. he would be doing better w/o jb in the race. his speech defect makes him pretty uncharismatic, which, sadly, is important these days. he has taken some good shots at corruption and idiocy.
have heard some less than good things about him on the trail.

i will have no trouble supporting jb if he wins the primary.

(21,646 posts)sort of wonder if it is another dem who is running in the primary that is pointing to corruption
You know here dems run against dems but it didn't seem right too dark should have known Repugs
I only saw a couple of times . So ruiner is assuming jb will run but maybe the last joke will be on him repugs hate ruiner too and are deplorable so they may vote that rw madwoman into general.
If Bliss or Kennedy get in he lost lots of cash
good

(11,139 posts)Pritzker has the money and I have heard many feel he is trying to buy the nomination like Rauner did (with the GOP). I got really tired of receiving a glossy ads from him every few days last fall, but that has stopped. Have not heard much about Kennedy, except for him walking out of the Tribune discussion when the GOP loon from DuPage talked about gun violence and absent fathers. Daniel Biss seems to be get the most buzz around here (Western Cook County burbs). I am also undecided and will be watching/listening to the debates.
I was actually surprised my Rep, gerrymandered from the horrible Lipinski (go Marie!), Gutierrez is not seeking re-election. There are several Democrats running for that seat that I also know nothing about.
lunasun
(21,646 posts)have so many dems to choose from for the gov race, that we are undecided this close to primary ? I am saying this in the Illinois (group ) and mean no diss to those less fortunate

(31,438 posts)but I think JB has this. Also, he is the most electable. We need to look at electability when going up against a slimy specimen like the Ruiner. JB has major endorsements: labor unions, his fellow Democrats in Congress.
My husband likes Daiber. Daiber is a decent man, but I think he needs to run for state rep or some other office and gain some more experience.
Interestingly, we have two very wealthy men at the top of the polling, Kennedy and Pritzker. Yet I find Biss to be the limousine liberal. I just don't like the guy at all. He has been a state senator for long enough to understand how Illinois politics and politics in general work, yet he keeps making rookie mistakes.
I will vote for Kennedy in the primary. If Pritzker wins, I will be out there working for him.

(71,821 posts)w the head start that he has w all his ads.
he is a relatable guy. a teddy bear.
and i always like a guy who is comfortable around kids. unless there was stuff going on off screen in a couple of those ads, that is always something that sticks w me.

(71,821 posts)he was right in the fight for marriage equality, and for mj reform.
strongly endorsed by my state rep kelly cassidy.
i wish he would pimp that stuff a little more than the fact that he is a dad who knows how to zip a kid's coat.

(21,646 posts)and have heard Kennedy speak briefly. But i will listen to the debates . If he is for MJ legal maybe we can wipe out some of our debt Ruiner delayed medical MJ months, so MJ could even be part of a vote backlash. I want to hear them all WEDS

(18,402 posts)My current preferences are for Kennedy (though he's a bit rough around the edges) or Biss (a bit young and raw, but I like the math-music background just because of personal connections). Whomever we chose aside from Pritzker, we're bound to split the opposition vote and hand it to JB anyway.
That's my sad but true prediction for this primary election.

but most jaw dropping to me was marshall wanting to divide the state into three states with three governors and legalize all opioids and cocaine
