Related: About this forumDick Durbin voted AGAINST funding food stamps & is in FAVOR of Cutting Social Security!
I believe he also voted against labeling genetically modified foods
He seems to have joined the dark side -- Any chance of primarying him?

In the Illinois Statehouse, Democrats are holding up an equality vote and some say they will vote against it because gay people don't deserve it, because of the Bible, you name it.

(31,438 posts)He is a fixture in the Senate, for as long as he wants. One consolation might be his age. He may choose to retire soon.
For the last few years, I have noticed him making high-handed and just plain wrong decisions.
whathehell
(29,802 posts)As far as his retiring anytime soon, I think that is about as "real" as his changing parties.
He's not that old.

(31,438 posts)I promise to learn about those. Thank you for the valuable instruction. What would I do without you?

(34,974 posts)since my mom passed and my small world turned upside down. i stopped paying attention to a lot of things out in the wide, wide world.
but this comes as a real shocker.
it's shit like this that keeps me withdrawn. pulling my head out of the sand only makes me want to hide all over again.
wow.
whathehell
(29,802 posts)most especially about your wanting to withdraw since your mom passed...My mom passed away a few years ago,
and I've felt the same way.
But, yes...The jerk is my senator and has always been a reliable Dem...All of a sudden, you can't discern
him from a repuke. He's on the record as being FOR the president's "chained cpi" plan for Social Security,
voted AGAINST mandated labeling of GMO foods, and just voted AGAINST the funding of food stamps...!!
I spoke to person who heads up PDA in my area, and she's shocked too..They are considering picketing
his home, to at least speak with him on the issue (she says he's "persuadable" but. like another
Illinois DUer, thinks that primarying him would be most difficult.
orleans
(34,974 posts)and i think it would be tough to boot him.
some signs and people picketing might bring attention to what he's doing.
sounds like he needs to explain himself with what he's up to and why he voted this way.
sorry to hear about your mom.
losing my mom is the hardest thing i've gone through in my life (we were very close--& i'm still heartbroken)
