Two paramedics in Illinois are facing murder charges after a patient died of positional asphyxiation shortly after he was taken to a hospital in December, court documents say.
Peggy Finley, 44, and Peter Cadigan, 50, responded to a home in Springfield on December 18 after police requested medical assistance for a 911 caller who was suffering hallucinations due to alcohol withdrawal, according to a news release from the Springfield Police Department.
Body camera footage released by police shows Finley entering the homes rear bedroom as one of the officers briefs her on the patient, Earl L. Moore, Jr.
Finley is heard yelling at Moore to get up and walk out to the ambulance. Youre gonna have to walk cause we aint carrying you! she says. I am seriously not in the mood for this dumb sh*t.

(18,670 posts)But aren't they supposed to monitor the vital signs of a person being transported? If so, these two were negligent in multiple ways.
I'm sure it's no fun to deal with a detoxing drunk who may be hallucinating and whatever else, but alcoholism IS a disease, and their job is to safely transport sick people to a medical facility.
I would say, "If you don't want to do all aspects of your job properly, find a different line of work." But that advice would be too late for this pair.

(706 posts)I want to know why the cops allowed them to strap him face down? All need to be removed from their jobs.
