Pete Buttigieg backers donate thousands to help him but aren't banking on a presidential run
SOUTH BEND A fragrance heir in New York. A tech designer in San Francisco. One of the nations wealthiest self-made women in Indianapolis. An attorney in Texas. A philanthropist in Connecticut.
Theyve all given thousands of dollars to South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigiegs Hitting Home Political Action Committee, but it doesnt mean they see him as a presidential candidate in 2020. In fact, some will plainly say hes not ready for that stage yet.
But they do believe Buttigieg has a bright future in the Democratic Party, both as a candidate for elected office and as a campaigner for others.
Buttigieg launched Hitting Home in June 2017, coming off his late-entry bid to become chair of the Democratic National Committee. Through June 30, 2018, the most recent figures available from Federal Election Commission records, the PAC reported about $289,000 in contributions, $154,000 of which was left over from his DNC run.
