Records suggest Attorney General Curtis Hill will fight groping claims with public money

Instead of paying for his own defense, records suggest embattled Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill plans to use public funds to defend himself against groping allegations.

Documents show Hill's office has been working for more than a month to draft a state contract with the Indianapolis law firm of Kevin Betz, an employment attorney and one of Hill's top political supporters.

One draft of the contract would pay Betz + Blevins up to $100,000 to represent Hill and the attorney general's office against any discrimination or civil claims brought by Hill's accusers. Betz, a longtime Hill friend, would receive $550 an hour.

Hill's office wouldn't say whether he still plans to pursue such an agreement.
