Fort Wayne Community Schools, union agree to 2-year deal

Fort Wayne Community Schools teachers' salaries will rise by about $600 next year, under a collective bargaining agreement set to be approved next month.

The two-year deal, discussed at a school board meeting Monday, calls for salaries to range from $40,679 to $71,496 for the 2020-21 school year. This year, teachers earned from $40,078 to $70,891.

The agreement comes after the district and the Fort Wayne Education Association “informally bargained” this summer and recently completed negotiations, officials said. A new state law limits formal negotiations to between Sept. 15 and Nov. 15.

The measure also requires districts to hold public meetings on teacher contracts before they are approved.
