Stutzman resigns from Indiana House, blames governor's coronavirus restrictions
State Rep. Christy Stutzman blamed Gov. Eric Holcomb's response to the coronavirus pandemic when she announced Tuesday that she will resign to focus on her dinner-theater business.
"We have lost key partners and staff and have been devastated by the mandatory restrictions put in place by the governor and health departments," the 47-year old Republican from Middlebury wrote in a lengthy statement posted to her Facebook page.
Indiana Republican Chairman Kyle Hupfer said he is sorry to hear about the challenges Stutzman is facing and wishes her the best but pushed back on where the blame belongs.
"Just as small businesses across the state are facing challenges," he said, "I'm sorry to hear about the challenges COVID-19 has placed on Rep. Stuzman's family business. But I'm equally sorry to see her wrongly place blame on the governor and health officials from across the state who are working hard daily to protect Hoosiers' lives and livelihoods."
