Indianapolis newspaper alters, then deletes racist Thanksgiving cartoon following complaints

And the Star issues a non-apology apology

Apparently they've managed to induce subscription cancellations both from people offended by the cartoon and from racists offended by any kind of effort to apologize.

He's one of the many reasons I refuse to subscribe to the Star.

I've seen his garbage posted in DU collections a few times and I've always complained.

Man has no talent and no sense of subtlety.

EDIT TO ADD: What the hell? If I'm reading the Rawstory article correctly, the editor didn't see this before it was published? ("Once it's on the Web we can't take it back...&quot Varvel can just turn in whatever he wants and it gets published? Shit, I worked at a newspaper that had a PULITZER winner and his stuff **always** had to be vetted by the editorial page editor, and there were times his stuff didn't run for various reasons. But Varvel is hands-off?

Again -- the Star sucks.

I seem to remember an article in the IBJ saying that the last round of cuts included most of the editors.

The newspaper business just isn't what it used to be.

Just as the Star is a disgusting excuse for a daily newspaper.
