Locked-out South Bend Honeywell workers will vote on contract proposal

SOUTH BEND — Members of United Auto Workers Local 9 will vote Nov. 12 on a new contract offer from Honeywell Aerospace that would end a six-month-long lockout if it is approved.

In a news release on Friday, the UAW said the five-year contract proposal will be presented to 320 Local 9 members who work at Honeywell's South Bend plant, along with 39 UAW members at a plant in Green Island, N.Y., who would be covered under the same contract.

Honeywell's proposal, however, comes without a recommendation from the UAW's bargaining committee. The UAW said details of the proposal will be withheld until the committee has a chance to "fully explain it to members at both locations."

Honeywell spokesperson Scott Sayres declined on Friday to discuss details about the contract proposal, which came as the parties met this week for the fifth time since the lockout started on May 9.
