Indiana legislation directly impacts hunting economy
LAFAYETTE, Ind. Weather can have a major impact on business, Gene Mills, owner of Geneo's Hunting and Fishing, said. Good hunting weather, however, isn't necessarily what people think, he added.
"Good hunting weather is a cool, crisp day. The cooler weather gets the deer moving for us and it also brings about the rut season," Mills said.
Although the weather hasn't necessarily been optimal, Mills said this hasn't been hitting his Lafayette business too hard, in part because he's seen a major uptick in gun sales due to recent changes in the Indiana Department of Natural Resources firearm regulations.
Earlier this year, legislation passed legalizing certain rifles for deer hunting. Mills said this has been good for business, as hunters seek to expand their arsenal before the firearm deer hunting season opens on Nov. 12.
