Conservative candidates defeated in Waukee school board elections
Waukee voters rejected a slate of conservative candidates that ran on an anti-mask mandate platform and was backed by a well-funded political action committee.
Instead, preliminary results Tuesday show Waukee's school has three new members on its board and one returning. Board President Lori Lyon was reelected with 14% of the vote.
Armel Traore Dit Nignan, Michael Schrodt and Jaime Secory were also elected with about 14% of the vote.
Waukee's school board race featured eight candidates competing for four seats.
Four of the candidates were part of the political action committee Warriors and Wolves United a nod to the district's high school mascots that campaigned on "academic excellence, equal opportunity, parent/guardian choice, relationships, accountability, transparency and fiscal responsibility.
