Mich is poised to replace Iowa as an early nominating state for Democrats in 2024, per senior officials.
Will be formally taken up by DNC this weekend, but the White House has decided.

trifectas controlling so there'd be no problem there. Plenty of bipartisan support anyway.
Crain's Detroit Business: "The Republican National Committee has voted to keep the status quo schedule, so Michigan Republicans could lose delegates to the national convention if they participated in the early primary. RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel is from Michigan.
"It would move Michigan up, give us a higher profile regardless of who's going to run for president," said Sen. Wayne Schmidt, a Traverse City Republican who is sponsoring the measure. "Putting us further up in the calendar year really can make a difference and spotlight. It swings back and forth. It is more of a purple state. It's a top 10 state. We have manufacturing. We have tourism. We have agriculture. We're a Great Lakes state. We're a Midwestern state. That's what I truly believe represents the majority of Americans — not the West Coast or back East."

Notice this Republican politician doesn't mention voter diversity. White somewhat higher than nationally at 79.0% white (including white Hispanics) and a bit higher for AA at 14.1%. Low for Hispanics at 5.6%.
Versus Iowa 90.1%, AA 4.3%, Hispanic 6.7%.
