SPOTLIGHT RACE: Heather Sievers for IA-HD40
Heather and her husband, Britt, are both Iowa natives and live in Altoona. She recieveed her Masters degree in counseling psychology and then went on to obtain her second Masters degree in clinical nurse leadership through the University of Iowa. She is also a graduate from Adel-Desoto-Minburn High School. Britt is a proud union member and an industrial mechanic. Their daughter Rowan is in second grade in Altoona. Rowan has rare disabilities called Smith-Magenis Syndrome, and Heather has used her experience in healthcare and advocating for her daughter to advocate for Iowans all across the state.
After working as a nurse for many years, Heather now works in the healthcare field focusing on quality patient care, transformation, and innovation to improve care for Iowans. Heather is also the founder of Advocates for Iowas Children, a non-partisan group supporting advocacy for thousands of parents, children, educators and service providers across the state.
I have learned so much from listening to people and advocating for families like mine across the state. I have seen how the current political landscape has hurt Iowans and continues to create more divisions among us. Its time for new leaders at the State Capitol who listen to Iowans and make positive change. My goals are to ensure that the voice of the community is heard, to reduce this political divide in our people, and focus instead on protecting rights and improving quality of life for all who live here. I will always choose our people over politics.
