Jan 2016

Pissed off that it got moved way back to January 3, in the middle of Christmas Vacation.

Especially given how Iowa likes to encourage out-of-state university students to caucus and vote in Iowa.

The date seemed to be counterproductive to something that most all Iowans support.

Instead of attending, we watched the 2008 Democratic Caucus results come in on TV with my wife's family in Colombia.

On the one hand, I didn't get to participate that year, but on the other hand, we did get to hear Iowa get mentioned on the news on Colombian TV, which was actually pretty cool, since Iowa is not normally a big topic on TV in Colombia.

The only other time that I know about Iowa being mentioned on TV in Colombia was when her family called and told my wife that they had seen the news of the unanimous Varnum v Brian decision of the Iowa Supremes (did I mention it was unanimous?...lol) that upheld Judge Hanson's 2007 decision on gay marriage.

My wife was not able to vote for Obama, either in 2008 or in 2012.

She got her US citizenship last summer, so while you are working in North Dakota, my wife will be attending her very first Iowa Democratic Caucus on February 1.

She's very much looking forward to the caucus, although she is disappointed that she can't caucus for Obama, and never got a chance to vote for him.
