VP candidate Kaine stumping in Ames Monday
U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia, the Democratic Party's nominee for vice president, will campaign in Ames Monday at Iowa State University's Memorial Union.
Kaine will be joined by his wife, Anne Holton. Campaign aides said Kaine will lay out the stakes of November's election and urge Iowans to vote early, starting Sept. 29, for the presidential and vice presidential ticket of Hillary Clinton and Kaine. The Clinton/Kaine campaign also said the vice presidential candidate will focus on how young people can get involved in the campaign and how the Clinton-Kaine agenda would support them, including a plan to make college debt-free for all Americans.
Doors open at noon and the event is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Attendees are asked to RSVP.
Kaine will arrive in Iowa as the race between Clinton and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is tightening nationally. Iowa is considered a battleground state that could be one of the keys to deciding the 2016 presidential election, according to political analysts.
