Simpson College to offer free tuition to low-income Iowa students

INDIANOLA, Ia. — Simpson College is opening its doors to scores of low-income Iowa students with a new initiative that will cover their tuition.

The Simpson Promise initiative, announced Monday, will cover the full tuition for Iowans who graduate from high school in May and whose families have a 2016 adjusted gross income of $60,000 or less.

“There has been a lot of talk about making college affordable,” Simpson President Jay Simmons in a prepared statement. “We decided it was time to take action.”

Simpson has 1,295 full-time students this year. More than 6 percent are education majors and another 4.5 percent major in management.
