Fundraiser set up for local radio KICI in Iowa City

mods: I have permission to print from this site.

If there is one thing I am certain of it is that the extreme right’s near total control of the media really makes the playing field quite uneven. In Iowa you have a better than average chance of turning on a right wing radio station when you feel like tuning in for a little news on your morning or evening commute. Even turning on NPR can’t shield you from slanted newscasts.

How about something different? How about some radio not owned by one of the media giants. KICI will be that voice

An intrepid group of citizens has been working to bring a different brand of radio to Iowa City. They currently have a fund raiser going on on Facebook with a match up to $3000. If you believe in democracy I can think of no better way to show your belief than by helping to bring another and different voice to the arena.

You can make your contribution on Facebook here.

From the Facebook page:

Dear Friends and Family,

Media consolidation has left local citizens with fewer options. Six media giants now control 90% of what we read, watch or listen to (Business Insider; 6/24/2012). Truly local radio in Iowa City is sorely lacking. KICI radio has had a lot of support but needs more to become a reality.

This fundraiser for KICI radio/Extend the Dream Foundation is to purchase needed equipment, music rights and programming.. Any amount is appreciated! I will personally match the donation dollars up to the goal amount.

Extend the Dream Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and your donations are tax deductible.

Extend The Dream Foundation’s mission Is to nurture And encourage people with disabilities. KICI will provide local, inclusive media for the Iowa City area.
