DAVENPORT -- The Service Employees International Union and several of its affiliates around the country have donated more than $1.8 million to Cathy Glasson's campaign for Iowa governor, including $1.1 million since late December.
Glasson, the president of SEIU Local 199, is one of seven Democrats seeking the party's primary nomination. And her affiliation with SEIU, one of the major players in Democratic politics, has been seen as an asset to her campaign.
Reports filed with the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board bear that out. A range of SEIU organizations from across the country have contributed to her campaign.
The biggest donor has been the SEIU international's political committee, which has contributed about $1.5 million. Most of that came in donations of $600,000 and $500,000 on Dec. 28 and Jan. 3, respectively, according to the filings.

It's a great signal that the top three Democratic candidates, Hubbell, Boultin and Glasson have collected nearly $6 million while Gov. Reynolds (R) has collected about $4 million.

(116,882 posts)There appear to be some solid choices to make in the primaries so if the party unites behind the eventual nominee, then Iowa could flip blue!
