In doing some research on him (a friend said she thought he was Repub) I was able to find this article from about a year ago:
http://www.thegazette.com/subject/opinion/guest-columnists/trump-might-be-the-enviromental-president-we-need-20161209
The Americans who stand as the rear legs in this metaphor trust Trump. Trump connected with the hard working and humble Americans in the energy industry because he voiced their fears. He questioned climate change, promoted coal, and expressed his displeasure for regulatory constraints. Trump earned their trust by defending their livelihoods, and the trust remains even though Trump displays significant flexibility with his energy policy vision.
As a result, Trump is in a position to make the biggest environmental difference since President Nixon. Trumps unwavering support from his constituents and his policy flexibility allow him to move ahead with unprecedented freedom, and his self-financed campaign and detachment from the Republican establishment further distance him from outside interests.
<<snip>>
With Trump taking the presidency, America has its best opportunity yet to slow climate change. Trump has the trust of the needed constituents and is free to shape policy as he pleases. I am hopeful that when Trump discovers this is how he can secure this legacy, he will motivate those rear legs to finally lift up and undulate, moving America forward.
Eric Dirth holds a masters degree in Environmental Advocacy from James Madison University and is studying environmental law and policy at the University of Iowa College of Law.
Uh - I don't think so, Mr. Dirth.

(63,207 posts)Apparently he also recently moved into this district. The state senator where he used to live is Joe Bolckom. For those not from Iowa, Bolckom is much loved in his district.
Me.
(35,454 posts)I wonder if the DNC is aware? You might automatically think yes but I take nothing for granted nowadays. The last thing we need is another turncoat DEm.

(63,207 posts)have an intervention. Not sure exactly what they can do, but I am sure they are already aware.
Johnson county is home to the U of Iowa and pretty liberal with a strong Democratic Party.

(1,009 posts)to dem party vetting?? Yeesh. Republican running as a dem.
Not a single negative thing about trump on his twitter page.
Not many workable links on his webpage either.
But the donate button works fine!
His twitter is @dirthforiowa
Seems @IAstartingline is a dem acct for iowa announcing candidates. Maybe they should be informed.

(63,207 posts)When I was on the local central committee we would occasionally have candidates no one had ever heard of take out papers. But they would often fail in either getting signatures or some other aspect. I think the central committee can do some vetting at their next meeting. The ones that happened in my county never lasted until the next meeting.
There are 2 other candidates that seem to be pretty strong so I am guessing he won't last long.
That instills a little more confidence. Its scary though when there are so many people running, that someone will slip through the cracks.

My recollection is that they threw a big bunch of money (thousands I recall) behind their candidate for city council, which is non-partisan. The guy got crushed.

A friend and I from twitter power searched this guy. Hes a conservative and belongs to The Federalist Society. A group that would likely mentor him into running...as a dem.
We better be careful in 2018.
