The Iowa Caucuses are being held this evening. Of course the national media doesn't care since it's not a Presidential election year one.
They're still on even with today's forecast. (I can see it snowing out pretty good right now).
Personally I don't think I'll be able to make it because of the weather. If the weather was even halfway decent hell yes I'd go. I like going to them even in off years and being with other Iowans who do not think fuck face is the Lord Jesus Christ Part 2 and who do not think that Steve King, Joni Ernst, Kim Reynolds, or Rod Blum are the greatest things since sliced bread.

(18,470 posts)This is more for choosing delegates for convention and approving planks.

(63,207 posts)most people never hear about the non-presidential years.
Step one in the process of getting delegates for the state convention.
May be important this year if no candidate gets 35% in the primary for governor. If not, the the convention makes the selection.

I'll admit the caucus system is a bit antiquated, but at least we're doing something. I wonder how many critics are just keyboard warriors and don't get involved.

(63,207 posts)I felt guilty, but I was so freaking tired from shoveling that there was no way.
I really don't like the caucus system, but it is not up to me to change it.
The reason we have it is because New Hampshire refuses to ever step aside as the first primary. So we can be first only if we don't have a primary.
As I have said before there ought to be some kind of a rotating primary system where a group of ten or so states is first every 20 years or so. I have come to believe that anything that brings money into any state will never change.
I really thought the caucuses would be gone by now, just like I thought we'd have universal health care by 2010. Well, I will keep dreaming.

People want to be involved and they want to change what is happening.
