Absentee voting for the primary begins today

The primary is June 5th so our revised voting laws have absentee voting beginning today.
This can also serve as a spur to check you registration as some rules have changed.

My 90 YO MIL changed counties moving into a nursing home and we got her registered last week.
In talking with our county auditor's office to find out what IDs she needed (no longer has a driver's license) it became readily apparent that they didn't know the law either.

I was surprised last couple of weeks trying to get my MIL registered and had a slew of questions about her ID. They had pretty much no answers. it was kind of scary.

Saw a video that I couldn't find again where Paul Pate gave a presentation to DMACC students and he got several things wrong. The students corrected and embarrassed him. For many of them their voting status is questionable.

But I have a current drivers license and the person I dealt with in the courthouse was properly trained. I imagine there will be a lot of people who won't vote or get turned away because of the bureaucracy.

I also heard about some behind the scenes grumbling from officials having to deal with this new voter ID crap. It's going to be tough in the upcoming elections making sure all the "i's" are dotted and "t's" crossed to make sure each vote counts. If Pate can't even get the right facts, imagine what it's going to be like with volunteers dealing with this as we try to GOTV.

Voting shouldn't be this hard.
