Call now - courts under attack

Just got this email from Matt Sinovic at Progress Iowa. As you should know, republicans in Iowa are trying to change the current non-partisan judicial selection process to make it a partisan process:

Justice Not Politics

Friends,

Later today the Iowa Senate will debate their proposal to inject more politics into our state's fair and independent courts. Will you help us try to stop them?

We have just a matter of hours until Senate File 237 is being debated. We do not know when House File 503 may come up. Both of these bills would shift dramatically away from the merit-based system of selecting judges, and put politicians in the driver's seat. Both Republicans and Democratic voters agree: the last thing our courts need is more politics, and more politicians involved.

Iowans have already made an impact by sending thousands of messages and making call after call to legislators. We need to keep up the pressure in these final moments to prevent politicians from having more control over judicial nominees. You can help right now by sending one email, making two calls, and sending one forward:

1. One email: Click here to send an email to your Senator and Representative. Tell them to vote NO on these changes that undermine our fair and independent courts.

2. Two calls: The Iowa Senate switchboard number is (515) 281-3371. Tell them you oppose Senate File 237. The Iowa House switchboard is (515) 281-3221. Tell them you oppose House File 503

3. One forward: Forward this email. Right now, right away. Send it to as many of your friends and family as you possibly can. Let them know what's at stake, and encourage them to contact the legislature too.

One email, two calls, and one forward. With your help we will send a message loud and clear to the Iowa legislature - do not undermine Iowa's fair and independent courts!

Thank you,
The Justice Not Politics Team

P.S. Be sure to click here right away to email your Representative and Senator. Each message goes directly to their legislative email address, and is our best way to get the message across up until the moment they vote at the capitol.

Ask anyone who has dealt with the antics of former Iowa Justice of the Supreme Court (1972-86) in his post bench career, Mark McCormick. I won't go into detail, but it showed me one hell of a lot about who runs what passes for "justice" in Iowa. Arguably it was politically corrupt then. If it is worse, now, heaven help you.
