State auditor: Former central Iowa chamber of commerce employee misused more than $200,000
Nearly a quarter of a million dollars was misspent by an Iowa chamber of commerce employee over a five-year span, a report from the state auditor says.
Officials for the Webster City Chamber of Commerce discovered discrepancies in one of the chamber's bank accounts in June 2018. Leah R. Mulholland, the organization's former financial and administrative assistant, was fired three days later after allegedly admitting to misusing funds, according to the report.
No criminal charges related to the audit have been filed again Mulholland, according to Iowa Courts Online. Webster City officials said Mulholland admitted to misusing the funds and signed a document to that effect, but they have not been able to locate that form.
At chamber members' request, state Auditor Rob Sand was asked to investigate chamber transactions dated Oct. 1, 2013, through June 30, 2018.
