LEAVENWORTH A white county commissioner in northeast Kansas said he belongs to the master race as he critiqued a land-use proposal by a black city planner at a board meeting.
Leavenworth County Commissioner Louis Klemp cited the Nazi ideology of Aryan supremacy Tuesday in response to the presentation by Triveece Penelton on road development options in Tonganoxie, just west of Kansas City.
I dont want you to think Im picking on you, because, were part of the master race, Klemp told Penelton, as he brought his fingers to his own teeth. You know you got a gap in your teeth, youre the masters, dont ever forget that.
Klemp told KSHB-TV off camera that his comment was a joke.
Commissioner Robert Holland said he was shocked by the comments and that he wants Klemp to resign before his term ends Jan. 15.

My uncle's brother used to be a county commissioner in Leavenworth. He also used to wear sheets and burn crosses on weekends. Yeah, it was in the 1930s, but this is really a non-evolved part of the country.

Gov. Jeff Colyer recommended Saturday that the Republican chairman of the Leavenworth County Commission resign for using racially insensitive language while addressing a black woman during a public meeting.
