Massive Tornado Damages Homes In Eastern Kansas; Storm Headed Into Clay County

A large tornado caused damage south of Lawrence before moving toward Bonner Springs and the Kansas Speedway area on Tuesday night. It wasn't immediately clear whether there were injuries or the extent of the damage.

At 7:50 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Clay County, with radar showing the storm, which weakened north of Kansas City, had strengthened again and was headed toward Kearney and Excelsior Springs.

The first report of a tornado touching down was at 6:15 p.m., Douglas County Emergency Management PIO Bob Newton told KCTV5. He said there were no immediate reports of injuries, but there was damage in Pleasant Grove, south of Lawrence.

“We’ve had several homes significantly damaged," he said, adding, "Power lines down all over in that area."

I briefly lived in tornado alley and I have no desire at all to ever experience that again. I love the spring thunder storms. Awesome in power. But, I went from window to window looking for tornadoes. Not fun at all.

people with CB's were giving the locations. It was a few miles behind me, then out in the fields, all over the place. We all missed it. It was out in Wells, KS. At night, driving on the expressway!

After telling the part of being out in the car and posted, I thought.... While in the dark. Looking hard to try to see in the lightening flash, out in the middle of nowhere.

Give me an earthquake any day of the week. Ok. I really do not want one of those either. But, I am not doing the tornado gig again.

Pissed me off...the channel 12 commentator kept saying radar would soon show blue echos reflecting
materials in the air..buildings..etc...Putting a jinx on my home for over 20 year..imho...

This pic is looking west..at the junction of hwy 18 and old 81..massive..
