Firefighters in Tokepa, Kan., were called to rescue a cat -- not this cat -- from a tree, as well as the feline's owner, who stranded herself on a branch during her own attempted feline rescue. Photo by Kapa65/Pixabay
April 17 (UPI) -- Firefighters in Kansas said they responded to a local tree to rescue a climbing cat -- and the feline's unlucky owner.
The Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center said the Topeka Fire Department was dispatched when a call came in about 9:59 p.m. Wednesday about a woman who became stuck in a tree while trying to rescue her cat.
Firefighters arrived to find the woman and cat stranded on a branch about 16 feet up in the tree. They were bought brought down safely.
Fire Department Shift Commander Todd Williams said firefighters occasionally are called to perform similar rescues in the area.

My last encounter with the Moonies was at an airport in D.C. back in the '80s. Fortunately, my uncle was there to head them off at the pass...

(117,464 posts)The first time was from Austin to El Pasofor a convention. The flight was from the old Mueller Airport and the end of the runway going west was so close to Interstate 35 that people would freak out because the planes would only be 35-40 feet off the ground as they crossed over the highway.
The second time was from DFW to West Palm Beach for a business seminar in Boca Raton during January. The rest of the nation was an ice box so the 70 degree weather was a nice treat.

(224,082 posts)I used to fly to NC regularly to see my grandmother, but she passed away in 1998. I've flown overseas a few times and that's when the trouble started. I was on a flight from JFK to Helsinki and I started having panic attacks. It turned out I was severely anemic, but I felt like I was dying. I recommend Finnair very highly, the flight attendants were just wonderful. One of them sat with me for the rest of the flight and she tried to persuade me to stay in Finland - so I wouldn't ever have to get on another plane! LOL. I've never been a fan of flying, but I wouldn't want to go through that again. My last flight was back from the West Coast. It was beautiful there, but I'm not sure even that could persuade me...
