Judge voids NKY city's election, ousts commissioners after voters given wrong ballots
CINCINNATI (ENQUIRER) - A Boone County judge has taken the rare step of voiding a Northern Kentucky citys recent election and ousting three commissioners after possibly more than hundreds living outside the town were given faulty ballots, our partners at the Cincinnati Enquirer write.
The decision by Judge Richard Bruggemann in Unions election comes months after poll workers at two precincts realized they gave voters Union city council ballots even though not all of them lived in Union. The precincts are shared by both city and non-city residents.
Now, the sole remaining member of the citys ruling five-member commission Mayor Larry Solomon will need to appoint a new board of his choice. Union, a city of 7,600, is run by a board of four people and a mayor, who is elected separately.
Bruggemann said it cannot be determined with certainty that the results of the election, which re-elected three incumbent commissioners and pushed one out, matches with what the majority of Unions voters wanted.
