University of Louisville case may be unresolved until next year

Gov. Matt Bevin wants a judge to reconsider his ruling in the University of Louisville board of trustees case, but his lawyer said it's unlikely the lawsuit will be resolved before the state legislature convenes in January.

Bevin's general counsel, Steve Pitt, appeared before Franklin Circuit Judge Phillip Shepherd on Wednesday morning to formally ask him to amend or vacate the judgment he issued last month, which said the governor did not have the authority to abolish the U of L board earlier this year. If Shepherd doesn't reverse his ruling, Pitt said the case still can be appealed.

State lawmakers could decide to approve Bevin's reorganization of the U of L board next year even if Bevin ultimately loses this case, which hinges on whether a governor can change a university board unilaterally the way he did.

"I think it's extremely unlikely that this case will be decided by the Court of Appeals or the Supreme Court before the legislature comes in in January, one way or the other," Pitt said.

I wonder what excuse he will come up with to put them in at UK, WKU, EKU, NKU................................? He seems to really hate public universities. His Lt. Gov told the Student Newspaper at EKU that she was against any public funding for higher education, though she went to college on the GI bill. Of course the paper had to apologize for daring to print her words later on, I'm sure the university was scared to death of offending this administration.
