Theyre teaching Mexicans how to speak English, the council chairman said in reference to Biblioteca Hispana, a Hispanic-language segment of the Golden Meadow library branch. Let that son of a bitch go back to Mexico. Theres just so many things theyre doing that I dont agree with. Them junkies and hippies and food stamps (recipients) and all, they use the library to look at drugs and food stamps (on the Internet). I see them do it.
Thats a quote from Mr. Lindel Toups, chair of the Parish Council in Lafourche, LA. Mr. Toups is orchestrating a special election this Saturday to take money away from the library to build a new jail. Yes, literally taking money from the library to build a new jail. He wants to redirect money already dedicated to the library an institution that educates all ages, helps people find jobs, connects them to social services, and is a place of self-discovery and community identity to build a new jail. And hes running a Saturday election to try and do it.

(93 posts)Lafourche Parish voters rejected by a 8-point margin a proposal to reroute a portion of the parish library system's property-tax revenue toward construction of a new detention center.
The measure failed by a 4,601-to-3,958 vote (54-46 percent), according to complete but unofficial results. After months of pointed debate, the library-jail tax swap brought 15.1 percent of the parish's registered voters to the polls. http://www.tri-parishtimes.com/news/article_77736346-4f41-11e3-9a77-001a4bcf887a.html
You would have thought this would have been a no brainier, but almost 4000 people would somehow like to see jails instead of a library???
What is wrong with this country!
