Louisiana will keep vehicle inspection stickers for now

BATON ROUGE — Louisiana motorists will have to keep their inspections stickers up to date for at least two more years after the author of a bill to eliminate them discovered his measure was unconstitutional.

"I'm disappointed because it's the most popular bill I've ever carried," said Rep. Larry Bagley, R-Stonewall, who authored House Bill 546.

Bagley's bill would have eliminated most of the vehicle inspection stickers and instead add $10 to the vehicle registration renewal fee, which Bagley said would have funded 150 additional state troopers.

Bagley had said the inspection stickers are a joke and insisted most stations did little to inspect a vehicle for safety.
