Metairie man booked with sexual battery after reported attacks on 2 Orleans deputies
An Orleans Parish jail inmate faces new allegations of sexual battery and battery of a police officer after authorities said he aggressively grabbed the groin area of two deputies in separate incidents while in custody.
Metairie's Michael Edwards, 29, had no previous felony arrest record in Orleans Parish criminal court, but was booked with a misdemeanor allegation for which he was taken to Municipal Court earlier this week. Details of the incident that prompted Edwards' first arrest were not immediately available in Edwards' court file.
But records show Edwards, whose forehead bears a large scripted "WHO DAT" tattoo, is accused of attacking deputies Monday (Aug. 3) and Tuesday.
An arrest report says Edwards was handcuffed in the front and seated on a bench Monday in the day room of Orleans Parish Parish, during transfer to the Templeman V building. Officials said that's when he suddenly lunged forward and grabbed a deputy's testicles. The deputy's condition was not disclosed.
