I have a friend in New Orleans who thinks the charter schools in Louisiana are the making great improvements that would not have been possible in public schools.
He cited the Mary Landreau, the T-P and the Cowen Institute at Tulane, quoting an reduced failure rate from 62% to 17%.
Is this legit? I have not been a big fan of charter schools, but if these a) are non-profit, b) accept all students and c) show that kind of improvement I want to learn more.
Any help appreciated.

(3,891 posts)There was a documentary out a couple years ago called Waiting for Superman. It followed the lottery of kids getting into one of the best schools in the region, and the families hopes and dreams of getting the children the best education possible.
I found the movie heartbreaking, so many hopes, so many dreams, so few realized.
