Once again, the Maine Heritage Policy Center is cherry picking facts in order to advance the pro-corporate agenda of its big business allies, said Maines Majority director Chris Korzen. This report has no credibility whatsoever, and constitutes a tremendous disservice to Maine's working families. It's time for the MHPC and its friends in the state legislature to stop promoting ideology and start creating jobs.
The debunking of MHPC's new report is the latest in a string of incidents that have called the organizations credibility into question. In August, the MHPC promoted a video from conservative filmmaker James O'Keefe purporting evidence of MaineCare abuse at the Department of Health and Human Services, only to find that O'Keefe had edited out key scences. Earlier this month, MHPC reporter Leif Parsell was fired for posting online comments sympathetic to white supremacy. And last week, the MHPC released a list of Maine State Housing Authority vendors, alleging that the list pointed to examples of wasteful spending. It soon surfaced that MHPC had failed to inquire about the nature of the individual vendor accounts, which appear to relate to legitimate expenditures.
