More than 20 Colby College students summoned on underage drinking charge

WATERVILLE — More than 20 Colby College students were summoned Thursday night on charges of underage drinking and using fake identification, police said.

Police Chief Joseph Massey said the department received a call about 11:30 p.m. from the Silver Street Tavern, where the staff believed that underage people were drinking there. The Colby students were at the Midnight Blues club beneath the tavern.

Massey said police arrived shortly thereafter and found the bar already had confiscated a number of fake forms of identification. Several officers responded and found a larger group of underage people there, Massey said.

At least 22 Colby students were issued summonses, Massey said Friday, and some were issued summonses for both underage drinking and possession of a fake ID. All told, 25 summonses were issued. All the students have an April 18 court date at Waterville District Court, and Massey said the penalty for the civil violations is a fine.
