Yes on 1 campaign announces multiple state leaders support

MAINE (WABI) - The Yes on 1 campaign announced today more than 120 civic and business leaders are supporting the question on the November ballot.

It seeks to place a $5,000 limit on individual and corporate contributions to political action committees.

The measure aims to put an end to Super PACs that can solicit and spend unlimited sums of money.

Maine is the first state to vote on the matter, and supporters hope it sets an example for other states.

“Right now, a billionaire or a millionaire or a big corporation can come in and spend a $1 million or $500,000 and put it into a PAC and spend money to help or oppose a candidate they like or dislike, and they are doing that to buy influence over that elected official. What Question 1 does is it says ‘no more’. You can’t contribute more then $5,000 to a PAC. So, we basically end Super PACs in the state of Maine. Those big groups that are spending money from folks from away to try to buy influence in our elections, and we make Maine elections once again for Maine people,” said campaign manager Kyle Bailey.
