WUSA9, March 5, 2021. - Excerpts:
Maryland Governor Larry Hogan called the state's newest mass vaccination site at the Waldorf minor league baseball stadium a "light at the end of the tunnel" as he reflected on the one year anniversary of his declaration of a state of emergency due to the coronavirus pandemic. "That evening we had discovered three cases. People had returned from a Nile River Cruise and were infected," Hogan remembered. "And we knew we were at the beginning of a crisis situation. I immediately declared a state of emergency that day."
"But I didn't know at that point that 360,000 Marylanders would be infected. At least 35,000 would be hospitalized, or that we would lose more than 7,746 lives." "It's just been an unbelievably difficult year for everyone, but I just want to say that we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel with these vaccines coming," Hogan said. Hogan spoke after touring the state's newest mass vaccination site at the Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf.

(17,154 posts)I know someone here in Montgomery County who arranged to go to a mass vaccination site in Baltimore. Obviously Baltimore is well served by public transportation, but I don't yet have a feel for how Maryland is doing generally with sites easily accessible to people who can't just pop into a car and drive considerable distances to get vaccinated. This is a particular concern for underserved communities, who are already at higher risk.
Judging by the latest email for those of us who are preregistered but not in a population currently eligible for vaccination, I get the impression the state is seeking to lower expectations on delivery times. It sounded as though it would be months before those of us in the next tier can sign up for a shot.
