Baltimore County Exec Olszewski calls homicide increase 'tragic milestone'
'Baltimore County Executive John Olszewski Jr. told C4 and Bryan Nehman that the fact
the county has hit 50 homicides for the year, so far, is "a tragic milestone."
Olszewski said he is angered and frustrated on behalf of anyone who has lost a loved one and he vows to do better. Citing an increase in domestic violence and mental health issues, Olszewski said he is making some strategic investments with money from the federal government.
Olszewski said he will spend more of the Federal Recovery Act money on shot detection technology and license plate reads, plus more domestic violence counselors.
Olszewski also addressed an increase in reports of students "acting up" in school. "it's not just children acting out in school these days," Olszewski said. "People of all ages seem to be having a problem handling conflict in general, and that is why there is a need for more money for mental health issues, etc., and more counselors in schools to help children.
