from Donna Edwards:
February 12, 2008 was a huge day for me. It was the day I won the Democratic primary to become the first Black woman to represent Maryland in Congress. That morning, before I voted, delivered a similarly huge personal victory for me. At 49 years old, after over 25 years, I mailed my last check. I was finally student-debt free. Sound outrageous? Thats because it is.
Americas student debt crisis has existed for decades, and its only getting worse. $43,000 is the AVERAGE student loan debt of a Maryland resident well above the national norm. And this crisis disproportionately hurts people of color and women. A reality I know all too well.
An education should propel you forward in life, not hold you back. Yet, millions are struggling to make ends meet just for pursuing their dreams.
Thats not right.
Thats why Im running for Congress to push for real change for the people of Maryland. If elected, I would make canceling student debt a top priority. Because no American should be financially worse off for pursuing a quality education in this country. If you agree, add your name and demand we cancel student debt NOW!
