My adult daughter and I are visiting Baltimore this weekend. I'm thinking of taking the light rail from BWI to Lexington Market, walking 1 block west to take the Metro from Lexington Market to the Shot Tower stop. Can anyone tell me if this is safe? It will be around 5:30 pm this Thursday and reverse it on Sunday morning.
We're going to the Springsteen concert at Oriole Park Friday night and I was thinking that with 30,000 people leaving the stadium at the same time it would be fine for us to walk north to Lexington Market and take the Metro back to Shot Tower. Is this a bad idea? I'm sure it would be very difficult to get an Uber.
Mods, if this post isn't allowed because it's not political (maybe it is?), please remove.
Thank you.

Sorry you can't join us. We won't be a timid twosome. I walk fast, self-assured and head held high. Same with my daughter.

(262 posts)I have worked downtown since 1989. Oriole Park is located at Pratt and Eutaw Streets or Pratt and Paca Streets. I can see the stadium lights from my office window. The Shot Tower is a mile away by car or foot. Lexington Market is a mixed bag. I often go there at lunchtime, but would hesitate to go there in the evening. You do not mention if you are staying at a hotel. I really can't give you any safety insight because I have no idea why you would get off at the Lexington Market stop and walk to the Shot Tower at President and Baltimore Streets unless you ar staying at the nearby Holiday Inn at President and Lombard Streets. Do NOT walk down Baltimore Street in the evening.

(1,129 posts)We're not walking frim the Lexington Market stop to Shot Tower. From the concert I planned on waking to the Lexington Market stop and taking the metro to the Shot Tower stop and walking the 1/2 block from there.
I had booked a vrbo just south of Oriole Park that had a "act of nature" reason to cancel on me. It was about the time of the bridge collapse. I doubt that was true, but anyway, I then booked a place in Pigtown (?) that canceled because they were selling the place. By this time there weren't many options for other lodging so I booked the place by the Shot Tower metro stop. At this point I don't have other options.
So glad Pigtown didn't pan out for you! I'm pretty certain I know exactly where you are staying. You will be just fine taking the Metro to the Shot Tower station. It's less than a one-block walk from the Shot Tower stop to the Holiday Inn. Very nice accommodations for you and your daughter. From the Shot Tower to Orioles Park at Camden Yards is approximately 1 mile. You can walk it and you will be safe on either Pratt or Lombard Streets. Depending on when the concert ends, you may not want to walk the mile back from Camden Yards to President Street. Then, again, if you walk up Pratt Street, you will be right by the Inner Harbor which has a heavy police presence. There are so many wonderful things to do and to see in Baltimore! We have the National Aquarium, the Science Center, Fort McHenry, theaters, museums, the Walters is world renowned! Brunch at the Lord Baltimore Hotel is incredible. I hope you and your daughter make fabulous memories during your stay here.
I misunderstood your post. If you are taking the Light Rail to Lexington Market stop, then Metro to the Shot Tower station, you will be just fine. For some reason, I thought you were planning to walk from Lexington Market to President and Baltimore Streets. At that hour on a weekday, you should be happily fine on the Metro for the approximately 1 or 1.2 miles. An Uber isn't needed. I have worked or studied continuously (postgraduate degree from Hopkins University) since 1989; however, I began working in the City in 1976. I have never had a problem with safety in the past 48 years; however, I am well aware of areas to avoid after rush hour. Hope you enjoy your trip! If you have time, visit the National Aquarium! I'd offer you accommodations in my home with direct Light Rail access to Camden Yards; however, I am currently ripping out carpeting and having hardwood floors installed so guestrooms are an absolute mess.

(1,129 posts)We will still be very vigilant the whole way.
Thank you so much for telling me youd offer lodging, if possible. That was very nice. Ive lived through the mess of tearing up old carpet and getting those old floors refinished. Good luck with your project.
If you email me, I will provide you with my cell phone number. If you have any problems I will come for you and your daughter. I live 20 miles due north of the city in an affluent area. We have nice hotels with direct access to all Light Rail stops. If you want my number just in case, I will gladly provide it. I think you will be just fine and you are going to have a wonderful time; however, I would gladly be your wing woman.

(1,129 posts)I'm sure we'll be just fine if we follow your advice and that of other posters to this thread, but I will take you up on your offer. I wouldn't use your number unless something went terribly wrong. Thank you so much.
