From Jamie Raskin: IRS Direct File

Just got this in an email from Jamie Raskin:

Constituent Corner: IRS Direct File

The average American spends $270 and 13 hours filing their taxes a year. Next tax season, I’m proud to share that IRS Direct file will be available in Maryland , allowing many taxpayers to independently complete their tax return online quickly and for free. I fought to have Direct File included in the Inflation Reduction Act and I know it will substantially reduce the cost of tax filing services for a lot of working families.

There is no reason why we need to pay a 3rd party to fill in forms for us (for most people, anyway), just a greedy money grab. The government already knows what the answers are, as you will find out if you enter a wrong number. I hope this is a step in correcting this situation.
