My mother always suggested we have some if we needed to brighten up a down day. Any excuse would do!

My BIL, who is 99, spent much of his youth on the Choptank.

When he and my sister visited here in September, we celebrated with the local seafood, especially oysters, He likes to call them “arrsters”, and can still demolish a cold half-dozen in short order. Oysters are good for ya.

Old Navy story: Bought a bushel of arrsters right on the boat at Tall Timbers for $8 and a case of Pabst Blue Ribbon. This was November 1978 while I was at Pax River NAS. We had great oyster dressing for Thanksgiving. By the way, this purchase was prearranged through a friend who indicated that the case of PBR was an important part of the transaction!

Tough part was shucking the bushel outside at the picnic table with a garden hose.
Hope you find some arrsters, soon.

I worked on the boilers in the firerooms of old WW2 ships. We used to catch crabs by lowering a basket and a chicken bone over the side, and when we had a bucketful, take them down to the fireroom and stick the bucket unfer a low-pressure steam drain for a few minutes. Makes a hell of a lotta noise!
And a blast from a fire extinguisher for a few seconds will chill a sixpack of beer!
Good old days!
