***CALVERT COUNTY!!!

A rapid onset of strong winds is possible in our area this evening between 8 and 11 p.m., with possible gusts up to 50 mph. Follow these safety tips to protect yourself and others:
- The safest place is indoors. If possible, postpone any outdoor activities during high winds and secure outdoor items to prevent them from blowing away.
- If necessary, take cover next to a sturdy building or under a shelter.
- Stay clear of roadways to avoid being blown into the path of moving vehicles.
- Use handrails on walkways and avoid elevated areas like roofs without railings.
- Be alert for flying debris, breaking tree limbs and loose outdoor items.
In Case of Downed Power Lines:
- Do not approach or touch downed lines or anything in contact with them, including vehicles or tree branches.
- Report downed lines immediately to your utility provider and local police.
- If a power line falls on your car, stay inside unless there is a fire. If you must exit, jump clear without touching the car and ground at the same time, then move away quickly.
If You Are Driving:
- Keep both hands on the wheel and drive slowly.
- Watch for blowing debris and vehicles being pushed out of their lanes.
- Use extra caution if driving high-profile vehicles like trucks and SUVs.
- If conditions become unsafe, pull over to the shoulder away from trees or tall objects, stay in your vehicle, and turn on hazard lights.
Check local weather updates and follow official channels for the latest information. Always prioritize safety and avoid taking unnecessary risks.
