DEDHAM, Mas. Dedham Selectman Michael Butler was arrested Thursday after he walked onto the construction site for the Algonquin Incremental Project on Elm Street.

Construction started in Dedham and Westwood on Tuesday. After a brief conversation with one of the workers, where Butler was informed that he couldn't be on the site, he was taken into custody by police, while protesters shouted their support, saying "Stop the pipeline, thank you Mike," and "Shame on Spectra."
Dedham Police Chief Michael d'Entremont said Butler was charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct. He was transported to Dedham District Court for arraignment. District Attorney Spokesman David Traub said Butler pleaded not guilty to a single count of trespassing.
He was released on his personal recognizance, told to stay away from the Spectra Energy worksite and ordered to return to Dedham District Court July 13 for pre-trial conference. The assistant district attorney on the case is Michael McGee. Butler's defense attorney is Michael Podolski out of Dedham.
