Gloucester police push pharmaceutical execs on opioid crisis

GLOUCESTER, Mass. —The Gloucester Police Department, which has already received national headlines and praise for its attempts to treat some addicts rather than arrest them, is now "calling out" highly-paid executives in the pharmaceutical industry.

In a Facebook post, the department lists the names, salaries, email addresses and phone numbers for five CEOs of pharmaceutical companies and asks what they are doing to address the opioid crisis that has touched many Massachusetts families.

Gloucester police are asking their 10,000 Facebook fans to contact the executives.

"Now...don't get mad. Just politely ask them what they are doing to address the opioid epidemic in the United States and if they realize that the latest data shows almost 80 percent of addicted persons start with a legally prescribed drug that they make," the post reads. "They can definitely be part of the solution here and I believe they will be....might need a little push."
